MEET THE TEAM

I was raised and grew up east of South Porcupine.  I attended St. Joseph’s School on Huot Street and finalized my high school years at RMSS (surprisingly, each of these schools are only a few blocks from the SPAH).  In grade 2, I already knew that when I grew up, I was going to be a VETERINARIAN.   I went to Laurentian University spending 4 years on a Biochemistry degree before being accepted into the prestigious Ontario Veterinary College in 1995.   The five years spent at OVC was a life changing experience with great mentors and classmates; many of whom I stay in contact with to this day.   Fast forward to June 2000: graduation and then the real world. In the beginning I separated out my time between 2 other local clinics for the first 6 months.  After this time,  I diversified my job with teaching Livestock medicine courses to local area farmers to educate them for better animal husbandry techniques with respect to medications.

Dr. Carla Mascioli graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2007 and returned to her hometown of Timmins to practice veterinary medicine.  She enjoys working with cats, dogs and exotics (small mammals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters).  Carla is interested in the variety that general practice has to offer from being in surgery, working up medical cases and routine annual vaccine appointments.  Her personal interests include the outdoors, music and cooking.

Hello all! I am one of the newest additions to the South Porcupine Animal Hospital Team and couldn’t be more excited to meet you and your beloved furry, scaly or feathered friend! I was born and raised in Northern Ontario and pursued an undergraduate degree in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph in 2009. I completed three years of undergraduate study before being accepted to the Ontario Veterinary College. Four years of veterinary school came and went quickly! I was elected co-president of our class, volunteered for a birds of prey rehabilitation centre (Wild Ontario) as team lead with a stunning red-tailed hawk, and was actively involved in extra-curricular activities at the College.

I am a Timmins born girl with a wonderfully big and loving family.   My love for animals started at a very young age and with this passion, I could not see myself going into any other career path.  After graduating high school, I went to the Haileybury campus at Northern College.  I graduated in 2006 and immediately obtained my registered veterinary technician status.  Even before finishing the program, I secured a position with the South Porcupine Animal Hospital.  During my spare time, I enjoy playing various sports, walking my Pug-Jack Russell cross dog named “Cali”, and spending time with my family and friends.

I went to Georgian College in Orillia, Ontario and officially graduated in 2009.  I became a registered veterinary technician the same year.  For the rest of 2009, I stayed at home to raise my beautiful daughter, Lucie.  In February 2010, I pursued a full time RVT position in Orillia; I was at two veterinary hospitals (Pinegrove and Ark Animal Hospitals) for 4 fulfilling years.  My next career move was to start at Heritage Animal Hospital in Midland until May 2016.   It was at this time, I moved north to join the team at the South Porcupine Animal Hospital.  When I am not working, I enjoy baking, spending quality time with my family, and many outdoor activities such as biking and hiking.  Jayden is my four-legged golden retriever who likes to keep me on my toes!

I have been a veterinary technician who has been in the field for 25 years.  My passion is working with all animals and trying to help when they are sick.  I have a horse, Dancer, who is 25 years old and a 18 year old cat, Smokey.   These animals, along with my previous loved ones, are my kids and I get a lot of enjoyment when spending time with them.  My husband and I love to spend time prospecting for gold in the great northern Ontario area; as well, when we are able, we have a cottage and enjoy fishing.  During my free time, I enjoy playing the saxophone with all my musically talented friends.
