We first opened our doors in June 2006 in order to serve pets in the immediate vicinity as well as the surrounding communities. Our goals are to provide the highest level of medicine and surgery to our patients while understanding and nurturing the human-animal bond relationship. As each of us have multiple “fur babies”, we are dedicated in striving to provide the care that we would expect to receive as owners ourselves. We strive for compassion and preventative health care while providing an educating experience to understand what is going on with your loved one whether in times of wellness or sickness. If we are able to, we will see non-clients if possible, but no guarantee can be made. Emergency situations would include the following: hit by car, breathing difficulty, bleeding, seizures, difficulty with urination or passing feces, lacerations. For this reason, we operate on an appointment based schedule; however, there are emergency situations that we cannot control which means that we can fall behind. We give our full attention to life threatening emergencies first but please know that we try to strive to respect the time of your appointment.
When your beloved pet arrives at the clinic, we ask that dogs are leashed and cats are kenneled (or equivalent) so that everyone is protected and safe. Although your dog or cat is friendly, the pet encountered might not be and a fight might ensue. As well, some clients are not comfortable around some breeds of dogs or cats in general; they would appreciate control so that everyone- people and pets- are as comfortable as possible.
To ensure the safety of all the people and pets at the South Porcupine Animal Hospital, we require that all vaccines are up to date. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT WITH THE RABIES VACCINE. Increasingly over the last 10 years, any animal bite to human is investigated by the local health unit and can be a complex procedure. Rabies is a “zoonotic” and can be passed to humans, therefore, we are striving to protect everyone in close contact with your loved one. Over the last 2 years, the RAW DIET has re-emerged in the area. Unfortunately, any patient that is on a raw diet will not be allowed in clinic for elective surgeries and if admitted due to illness, the pet will be placed in isolation at the owner’s expense. The reason behind this policy is to protect people working closely with your pet but also for any other loved pet in clinic. Recipients of the raw diet can serve as a source of Salmonella and/or E Coli infections. Any immunocompromised , geriatric or young person or pet is at risk for contracting these potentially lethal infections.
